Once more, we put a motorsports spin on Deadspin’s open question, and since this Monday is as relevant to racing as it is to basketball, I reckon I ask the same question.

Dale Jr’s win at Daytona the year after his dad died.

Not a big NASCAR fan or Dale Jr fan, but it was really cool to me.

I don’t know that I necessarily have a team in F1, although I’d say I’m probably rooting for Haas the most because ‘Murica. But it has made me very happy seeing Perez make the podium in both Monaco and Baku this season. His teammate is one of my favorite drivers, but Perez is a great guy too. He’s often gotten screwed over in races because of racing incidents, usually the fault of someone else, or mechanical failures. To see a guy like him reach a truly deserved podium position off of merit, especially at the wheel of a backmarker team, gives me the warm fuzzies.

Easily, Alexander Rossi’s Indy 500 win. Being an open wheel fan and an F1 fan who has followed his career. It was amazing to see his success at Indy.

Going with your picture, Le Mans. F1 was super boring and predictable this weekend.

Le Mans reminded me that it’s not over until you truly cross the finish line; some powerful shit right there.

Not really the answer I am looking for. Try consulting the Deadspin article.

I really enjoyed Regan Smith winning the 2011 Southern 500. It's nice to see the smaller teams competitive at non restrictor plate races. Too bad Harvick and Kyle Busch ruined most of the post race celebrations with their shenanigans.

Let me elaborate: I don’t really care who wins the 24. I don’t follow WEC. However, the outcome made me happy as I, and others, are reminded how tough motorsport as a whole can be, and you can’t count on things until they are absolutely complete. I watched the events live and it drove an emotion deeper than a twist F1 outcome has ever done.

I’d have to say this year’s Indy 500. I was rooting for Hinch to win, but Alex Rossi taking the win made me really happy.

Considering that he lost his seat in F1 and relegated to the reserve role then winning the Indy 500 was something special.

If you don’t win, you gotta make sure the second headline has your name in it.

Trevor Bayne winning the Daytona 500. I was in the Chevy camp cheering for Gordon, but gosh-darnit, I won’t forget watching the underdog win.

Yeah, Peugeot winning Le Mans in 2009 is a good place to start, because I’m an Audi enthusiast. I have a model of that 908, and none of the R10/15/18. 2009 brings another good one though, that of Brawn GP and Jenson Button winning the F1 World Championship. I’ve been a Ferrari fan since childhood (predictable, I know), but seeing Jenson, one of my all time favorite racing drivers, win the championship after years of commitment to BAR/Honda’s lackluster program was pretty special.

Kimi Raikkonen doing donuts after winning the 2007 Spa GP. At the time, I hadn’t yet realized that his icy demeanor was a result of him having a severe deficit of fucks to give, (rather than a total lack of anything remotely resembling human emotion,) so it was delightfully surreal to see him going full Tony Stewart as the flag marshals tried to wave him into the pit lane. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————- I should also mention that time at Le Mans that one of the factory Corvettes was so far ahead that, with only a few hours left to go, they made a stop to wash the car. (I don’t remember what year this happened, only that they were still driving the C6R.) ————————————————————————————————————————— *Sorry about the improvised line breaks, but Kinja still keeps sending my cursor to the start of the text whenever I press enter.*

Red Bull Vestappen winning his first race when he switched teams. Not a fan of RB at all (Mclaren is #1! Wait they finished 13?) but seeing Vestappen win like that will be something I remember for a long time.

At Le Mans, I have no bias* towards a GTE-Pro team, because anything can happen and each time is comprised of amazing drivers. Porsche’s GTE-Pro win in 2013, along with the emotional video they put out after the race, including a tribute to Allan Simonsen was bitter sweet. Three years later and it’s still an extremely emotional video. Corvette Racing’s victory at Le Mans in 2015 also made me happy, especially since they were the only round in the team’s gun for the race. Porsche winning the 2015 Petit Le Mans overall in a GTLM 911 RSR also put a massive smile on my face.

*Except this year because of the BoP where it was anyone but Ford is alright in my eyes.
